Manoocher Deghati

1954
Born in Orumieh, Iran.
1975/78
Studies cinematography in Rome, Italy.
1978/85
Returns to Iran and covers the revolution. Works with AFP, Sipa Press, Black Star, and publications such as Newsweek, Time, Life, Paris Match and Stern.
1986/96
Director of Photography for AFP in Central America, Cairo and Jerusalem.
1996
Severely wounded whilst covering a confrontation between Israelis and Palestinians in Ramallah. Spent the next 18 months rehabilitating in the military hospital Hôpital des Invalides in Paris where he produces a photo essay about war veterans.
1998/2001
Photographer for AFP based in Paris, covering national/international news and stories; wounded again in 2000 whilst covering the visit of French Premier Jospin in Ramallah / Palestine.
2002/04
Starts working as a freelance photographer. Founder and director of AINA Photojournalism Institute, Kabul; United Nations international monitor for the 2002 Loya Jirga elections in Afghanistan; Teacher at World Press Photo Master Class in Amsterdam.
